Five stars for the lone star capital city

From carrot cake-french toast to world class art and music, Austin receives a five star not a lone star review. The capital of Texas has won our hearts, souls and bellies. It is a great place to eat, sightsee and enjoy live music.

We followed the backroads into the capital city catching the early spring blooms of Texan wild flowers and young cattle.Once inside the city limits we toured the Capitol, and visited the University of Texas campus, where we enjoyed the Blanton Museum of Art and the Ellsworth Kelly Austin building exhibit. We walked along Lady Bird Lake and Barton Springs with locals and tourists on a beautiful spring day. Even the turtles enjoyed the warm day. We stayed at a great bed and breakfast a few blocks off SoCo in a completely relaxing and quiet neighborhood, the Park Lane B&B. It is an all-green micro-compound with three cottages, main home, and pool. We spent a night in a large cottage then a night in the house. It was the perfect place to leave the car, walk everywhere and pop back in to rest before the evening out. Our hosts have a grapefruit tree for fresh juice each morning, we also enjoyed fresh eggs from our bed and breakfast’s resident chickens. Thanks Maxine the hen!Evenings in Austin mean great music and dancing. We chose the Continental Club to catch great tunes and watch some outstanding moves on the dance floor. We visited the Zilker Botanical Garden, and managed to stop at some ubiquitous food trucks too. SoCo, south Congress Street, is always busy and filled with cool murals, unique stores and live music; we enjoyed it all. Great food at SoCo Café and Perla, great music and dancing at the Continental Club, Elephant bar… the rest of our escapades stays in Austin!
